VolunteerAs a Health Institute student they give you the opportunity to go to Fresno Community Regional Hospital and experience employees in action. My department was short stay, this area is for patients who have just got out of surgery and are still under anesthetics. My job was to clean rooms, discharge , observe, and assist patients. My interest in the medical field is registered nursing, registered nurses are easy to find in hospitals. Luckily I found a registered nurse to shadow so I can decide whether this is the job for me. My mentor Dareen Malaythong (left) explained to me and demonstrated what a registered nurse (RN) does. I have completed 30 volunteer hours at the hospital and I believe this is the perfect career for me.

Sports MedicineHealth Institute students were required to take Sports Medicine because it was a class related to the medical field. As a Intro Sports Med we had the opportunity to work on the field as rookie athletic trainers. My job on the field was to wrap players who needed it and blood patrol, making sure no one was bleeding. In class we learned how to wrap any part of the body. We also learned the different bones, muscles, injuries and diseases of the body. I also was able to learn how to do CPR and become CPR certified. This class is one of the classes that have influenced me this most, I'm glad this class became an option.

CateringI don't only hula dance for the Polynesian Club of Fresno, I work for them too. Although Catering is not related to my career choice, it's taught me how to work at a fast pace. As a person who does catering jobs, you are always on your feet. My job is usually to prep for 200 plus people and placing and replacing food.
